Indian girls Ankita Raina and Prarthana Thombare shined as India beat arch-rivals Pakistan 3-0 in straight fashion in their opening tie in the Asia/Oceania Group II of the Fed Cup here on Wednesday.

In the opening match of the day, Pakistan’s Sara Mansoor was of no competition to India’s Prarthana as she trounced her cross the border counterpart by a scoreline of 6-1,6-0, before Ankita got rid of the other other competitor in the opponent’s house with an all round display in a 6-0,6-1 win over Ushna Sohail.
Recently crowned women’s doubles world no. 1 and India’s playing captain Sania Mirza, who returned late last night from the US needed not to take field as the Pakistani girls proved easy challenge to the ever improving Indians.
To merely finish the job, Indian doubles pair of Natash Palha and Pratana G defeated Pakistani duo of Imam Qureshi and Ushna Sohail 6-0,6-4 in the third and final match of the day in pool C.
In the other matches of the day, Philippines defeated Singapore in three straight matches to win 3-0 on aggregate in Pool A. In Pool B, the same aggregate followed as Kyrgyzstan was beaten 3-0 by Iran.
