Indian Wells 2019: Dominic Thiem Knocks Down Roger Federer in The Final

The Swiss tennis prodigy, Roger Federer was in search of another his ATP shield after his triumphant time in the Middle East in Dubai. Federer was halted from creating history at Indian Wells 2019 by becoming the only name in the history of BNP Paribas Open to clinch the title for the sixth time in his career. Roger Federer was outdone by the Austrian, Dominic Thiem 3-6 6-3 7-5 in the finals of the Indian Wells 2019. The Indian Wells 2019 is the first Masters title for Thiem after losing his first two ATP 1000 finals.

Dominic Thiem uplifted his game in the last two sets and produced some deadly forehands and made it strenuous for the Swiss to win his 101st ATP title at the Indian Wells 2019. It was unreal to witness the groundstrokes from Thiem’s end and especially his forehands were impeccable.

After dropping his first set, the 25-year-old, Thiem earned a double break to go up 4-1 against Federer. Maintaining his momentum he sealed the second set 6-3. The third set was followed by some awe-inspiring rallies where Thiem survived the net game of Federer.

Thiem got his major break at 6-5 and later comfortably served his out for the Indian Wells 2019 title. “I was a little nervous to serve it out,” Thiem said after the match. “It’s been a pleasure to play against one of the greatest of all time.” It was the 12th title for the Austrian in his career and mentioned his mentioned he is 88 titles behind Federer in his victory speech. It is a big day for the Adidas Parley man, Dominic Thiem as he wins over a five-time desert champion, Roger Federer. 

“Thank you very much. It’s been a great week for me even though it didn’t work out today,” Federer said. “What a great week Dominic has had, congratulations. Wonderful playing at the very end there, you deserve it.” Dominic Thiem has moved four spots above on the ATP ladder and declaring himself to be the World Number four tennis player.
