American legend Serena Williams is currently in Melbourne, in her quest to lift a much-awaited 24th Grand Slam title. She played her opening round match against Germany’s Laura Siegemund. Williams sailed smooth and won the match in straight sets 6-1 6-1 and finished it in less than an hour.

When Williams stepped on the court, she wore a stunning outfit, seeking inspiration from Florence Joyner, a former American athlete who set world records in the 100 meters and 200 meters. She was an Olympic Gold Medalist too.

Serena’s outfit is similarly designed to that of Joyner’s, comprising a mixture of pink, black, and a slight tinge of orange colors.

Florence Joyner’s fashion and outfits were amazing, says Serena Williams

The 39-year-old explained in detail about her outfit and stated, “I was inspired by Flo Jo. She was a wonderful track athlete, amazing athlete. Watching her fashion and changing how her outfits were always amazing. So this year we thought of what can we do to keep elevating Serena Williams on the court.”

The American superstar and Nike have worked together to design a spectacular product.

Speaking on that, she added, “The Nike team actually thought of this design of inspiration from Flo Jo. I was like this is brilliant. That’s kind of where we started and obviously, we made a few tweaks to it and it became this.”

Williams will play Serbian Nina Stojanovic in the second-round match at the Australian Open on Wednesday. It will be their first meeting.

Prior to the Australian Open, Serena played at the WTA 500 Melbourne. However, she was unable to play her semi-final match as she felt a niggle on her shoulder.
