Patrick Beverley took a dig at Tyler Herro after the Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat at their own gym Wednesday night in the Eastern Conference finals. Several Heat fans flooded social media in response.

Herro could do nothing but watch from the sidelines as Boston edged closer to the NBA finals after a crucial game 5 victory on the road. The Miami Heat guard has now missed two straight games in the series because of a groin injury.

Patrick Beverley appeared on the ESPN Keyshawn, JWill and Max show to provide his insight on the game. After being asked by the host about the impact of Herro’s absence on the Heat’s surprising loss at home, he replied, “If he was to play could he have done more? That’s my question.”

Heat fans didn’t quite agree with Beverley’s position. In fact, they responded in numbers to what they thought was a very facile assessment.

Here’s what they had to say:

This is not the first time Patrick Beverley is getting the heat from NBA fans. He also appeared on ESPN Get Up after the Suns’ game 7 loss against the Mavericks and said Chris Paul can’t guard anybody. Beverley compared CP3’s defense with that of a practice cone.

To add insult to injury, he said coach Monty Williams should’ve benched Paul. This take generated a lot of backlash from NBA fans.
