After returning from the LA Lakers’ injury list last Friday, Luka Doncic immediately powered them to a 117-112 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Without a doubt, the Slovenian has been on another level this season, breaking multiple records in just three games. He joined Wilt Chamberlain to become the second player to start a season with three straight 40-point outings. Now, with Miami coming to town, all eyes are on Luka again.

Doncic made sure his return was unforgettable, exploding for 44 points in the Lakers’ victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. “He just continues to get where he wants to go and takes what the defense gives him,” Lakers coach JJ Redick said after the game, praising his star’s effortless command on the floor.
Doncic shot 14-for-27 from the field and 6-for-15 from three. He had 43 in the opening night loss to Golden State and 49 against Minnesota before his injury spell. Friday’s game was the point he picked up right where he left off. “I feel great. But obviously after we get a win, I feel even better,” Doncic said. “That’s the whole point.”

Now, as Luka averages 45.3 points per game, he is undoubtedly off to have one of the most prolific starts in modern NBA history. Whether he would be able to keep up a 40-point average for the season is yet to be seen. But he says, “That’s going to be tough. Sometimes, I won’t be able to score that much.”
