Former World No.3 David Ferrer has managed to carve out a name for himself after a long career that will most likely stand the test of time. “Thanks to having him around”: David Ferrer

Ferrer feels that his compatriot Nadal made him a better player. The 37-year-old has learned a lot from the Spanish No.1. Ferrer has lost 26 out of 32 matches against the 19-time Grand Slam champion but is still thankful to him for making him a better player every day when he was on the tour.

“Many people think that because of Rafa I never won a grand slam or I couldn’t be better. But it can’t be further from the truth. Thanks to having him around, I became a better player, having him was for the best,” Ferrer said in an interview.

David Ferrer enjoyed a prolific 19-year-old career and he was one such force. He also finished inside the top-20 for 11-consecutive seasons and clinched 27 ATP titles. Ferrer was also one of just two active players – the other being Nadal – to have won 300-plus matches on both clay and hard courts. He created a record of playing more finals (51) and semi-finals (90) than any other active player outside of the Big Four.
