“It Was My Daughter Who Convinced Me To Get Back”- Kim Clijsters

Kim Clijsters is ready for a triumphant return to the WTA tour. After remaining away for the court for seven years, the Belgian star shocked the world by announcing her return at 36.

Clijsters opened up on her plans upon returning, in an interview given to Telegraph.

What Did Kim Clijsters Say?

Clijsters explained how this return of hers will not be similar to her earlier return. This time, she wishes to be more of a part-time performer and will prioritize her family commitments.

It will be very different. Already, I’m not going to play a lot of tournaments. The children (she has three) will not follow me and I will make my program according to their needs, their school exams. I’m thinking of coming back for maybe two, three or four seasons, no more.”

She maintained the fact that the duration of her return will depend a great deal on her form.

“We will see my form and the recovery time that I would need between two tournaments. I have a lot of experience, but this will be a total discovery. I may not win a game, but I will do my best. “

Who Motivated Her To Return?

Clijsters revealed that it was her eldest daughter Jada, who convinced her to make her return.

“I was competing in the Australian Open Legends tournament and it was fine with me. I sometimes tapped the ball with active players who asked me and it was OK. Commenting on the Australian Open, I found myself very close to the action and it rekindled the passion. I started talking to my husband about it. I thought of Roger (Federer) , Serena and Venus (Williams) thinking that maybe I could give it a try. “

Clijsters revealed that Jada was watching her and she asked her to hit the court again.

“When I got back from Australia, I talked a lot with my trainer to find out if it was possible at my age, if my body was going to hold up. I also talked about it a lot with my two older children. And Jada, my eldest, definitely convinced me to go there, to try it and get back to it seriously. During an exhibition match against Venus Williams, she told me that I seemed to be ten years older than her. It was quite a motivation. “

Kim Clijsters confessed that she is intimidated by how good the new players are. She named Naomi Osaka and her hard-hitting in particular.
