“It Was Unfair to Him” – Dominic Thiem Comes Out in Defense of Novak Djokovic

The Adria Tour was an exhibition event series initiated by Novak Djokovic. While many certainly enjoyed watching the event, it had some negative consequences. Some players, including Novak himself, were infected with the coronavirus. The Serb faced a lot of criticism and Dominic Thiem, who took part in the event, has just defended him.
Dominic Thiem Defends Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic was heavily criticized for hosting an event in the middle of a pandemic and not enforcing social distancing. However, Dominic Thiem feels that blaming him is unfair. In an interview with CNN, he said,
“It was unfair to him because he didn’t break any law and he didn’t force us. He didn’t force any player to come there. He didn’t force any player to interact with the fans. It was our own decision. The whole event was for a very good cause as well.”

While the Austrian admitted that everybody made a mistake, he feels it is time to move on since it was a long time ago and everybody has recovered.

He is now going to be directing his focus to one of the biggest events in tennis – the US Open.

Ever since it was confirmed that the US Open would be taking place, many players expressed their skepticism about it. Thiem was one of those players, as he felt it would be risky to play with the restrictions in place. However, the Austrian recently confirmed his participation despite the restrictions. His decision is, no doubt, influenced by his sole objective of finally winning a Grand Slam.
Thiem has had many opportunities to achieve this goal of his in the last few years. We may very well get to witness him do it at the US Open.
