Dwayne Johnson has enjoyed tremendous fame and success in his acting career. One reason for his immense popularity has been his conduct with his co-stars as well as the fans. Despite having close friendships with quite a few top actors over the years, his relationship with Fast and Furious co-star Vin Diesel turned bitter.
Diesel and The Rock first starred in the Fast and Furious franchise in 2011 and shared screen for a few more years. During this time, the pair forged a good friendship and appeared inseparable. But things took a turn for the worst in 2016 when DJ publicly voiced his feelings about his male co-stars in the Fast franchise and referred to them as “candy a**es.” However, a few years later, the former WWE Champion shared his regret over airing the dirty laundry in public.

Dwayne Johnson said he went against his DNA
The Rock deleted his Instagram post afterward, but the damage was done. DJ and Diesel have had a frosty relationship since then. This public feud led to the WWE star departing the Fast and Furious franchise and he hasn’t been seen with Vin Diesel since in an on-screen capacity.

Then Vin Diesel made a public plea for The Rock to come back to the franchise, which the Great One termed as manipulation. And all this stemmed from the Instagram post The Rock made calling out male actors for their behavior on the sets of Fast and Furious.
In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2021, The Brahma Bull stood by his comments but said to express them publicly was not the “right thing to do.” The Rock said it caused a “firestorm” and every crew member quietly thanked him. DJ explained, “It wasn’t my best day, sharing that. I shouldn’t have shared that. Because at the end of the day, that goes against my DNA. I don’t share things like that. And I take care of that kind of bullsh*t away from the public.”

The Rock further noted that afterward it led to a meeting that cleared up a few things and he had a good chat with Vin Diesel in his trailer. In the interview, ‘The People’s Champion’ said he realized that Diesel and himself are two different people.

Fast and Furious franchise after Dwayne Johnson’s exit
Although the exit of DJ, one of the most marketable actors in Hollywood, may have been a jolt to the Fast and Furious franchise, it has continued to be successful. In 2021, the franchise released its ninth installment titled Fast and Furious F9. The movie grossed over $726 million worldwide despite the absence of ‘The Great One’.
Interestingly, the movie starred one of The Rock’s biggest in-ring rivals John Cena, who played the role of Diesel’s estranged brother. A sequel, titled Fast X will release in May this year with Jason Momoa also featuring alongside Vin Diesel.
