One player who enjoyed staying off the ATP tour during the coronavirus pandemic was Nick Kyrgios. The Australian refrained from traveling and participating in tournaments in the restarted 2020 calendar. Thus he spent months at his home in Canberra, Australia with friends and family. Now before the Australian Open 2021, Kyrgios will play the ATP 250 tournament, Murray River Open with fairly no match practice.

Kyrgios made an honest revelation about his tennis during the pandemic. He didn’t touch his racquet and had a hard time getting back to the court.

“I didn’t really miss the game at all. It was a bit of a task to get out there, get in the routine of things. Wake up and say, Look, we got the Australian Open around the corner, let’s put some work in. It wasn’t so easy,” Kyrgios said.

Recapping the past year, Kyrgios revealed how much he loved staying at home with his family. And now, taking the positive vibes from 2020, he is looking to start the 2021 season.

“Last year was a crazy year. I was incredibly lucky. I’m from Canberra. Honestly, I think it was the best part of the world during everything. There were no restrictions there for seven months. I was incredibly lucky to just be with my family and friends and just kind of reset on everything, I feel mentally completely refreshed, ready to go again. I feel like I am playing well and am ready to go.”

But Kyrgios got his competitive spirit high and started his preparations for Australian Open 2021. Kyrgios last played a tennis match back on 26th February 2020. So he was in dire need of practice.

“I actually didn’t touch a tennis racquet for the first four or five months of quarantine. I wanted to get completely away from it. It was actually tough to start getting back into it. I’m a competitor. I compete with everything I do.”
