“It Will be Our Loss Whenever He Retires”: Kapil Dev on MS Dhoni

Former India captain Kapil Dev has recently talked about the retirement of MS Dhoni. He said the retirement of Dhoni will be the loss for team India. Moreover, BCCI dropped him from the contract list who was in Category A last season. But Kapil doesn’t want the 2011 World Cup-winning captain to hang up his boots anytime soon.

“He has served the country so well for so many years. One day, he has to retire. It will be sooner or later. He has to go at some time. He is not playing matches. So I don’t know when he is going to come out and say he has had enough. It will be our loss whenever he retires,” he shared in a recent event on Saturday.

Apart from this, the former captain also spoke about the injury problem of the Indian bowlers. He said when a player plays 10 months in a year, he will get injured. Moreover, the conditions and weather in India are different than other parts of the world which poses a challenge to them. However, Kapil Dev hoped the team management should take care of the players as well.

MS Dhoni made himself unavailable for selection following the ICC World Cup 2019. He missed the home series against West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh and recently Australia as well. However, he started preparation for the upcoming IPL recently with Jharkhand’s Ranji team. His fluent batting impressed the coach also.

India head coach Ravi Shastri has also commented on the future of Dhoni. He said Dhoni’s future depends on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Moreover, the head coach of Indian team also said Dhoni may clear the air on his retirement after IPL.

Shastri also said Dhoni knows pretty well what to do and when. He also gave the example of his retirement from test cricket as Dhoni is not someone “who will impose on himself”.
