“It’s Crazy for Me”: Iga Swiatek Recalls Rafael Nadal’s Victories In Roland Garros After Clinching The French Open 2020

Every young dream follows an inspiration. A role model is necessary to fuel ignited minds to race down the roads of glory. The French Open 2020 has coronated a new champion in women’s tennis. Creating history, Iga Swiatek became the first player from Poland to win the coveted Roland Garros.

The 19-year-old faced the reigning Australian Open champion in the final. Her straight-set victory against Sofia Kenin showcased her domination in the tournament. The youngster was unable to keep her emotions in check after winning the Grand Slam in Paris.

Like everyone, she also had an inspiration and was not shy to speak of it. She believes in following the best to get hold the best results. Therefore, she has always admired Rafael Nadal. The twelve times Roland Garros champion is undoubtedly an inspiration for all, and Iga is one of them.

“It’s crazy for me because I was watching every year how Rafa lifts this trophy. So it’s crazy that I’m in the same place,” she stated.

Iga Swiatek the next big name in the circuit

The Polish professional had a fairytale run in Paris this year. The unranked player made the headlines by taking the championship without losing a set. Iga lost only 28 games in the whole tournament. For a youngster, the statistic is quite formidable.

Swiatek faced Eugenie Bouchard in the third round. Defeating her in straight sets, she set up her fourth-round clash with top seed Simona Halep returning the memories of French Open 2019. However, she avenged her 2019 humiliation by defeating Halep in straight sets.

The win against Halep was the boost she needed the most. Although she faced lesser competitions in the quarterfinals and the semifinals. Keeping her straight-set victories intact, she cruised to the final of the French Open 2020.

The final feud against Sofia Kenin was the last hurdle she had to cross. Kenin was on her second Grand Slam final this year. Everyone anticipated a proper tussle for the trophy. However, proving everyone wrong, Iga Swiatek continued her straight-set spree as she dominated the match to take the match 6-4, 6-1 to her name.
