At the 2020 US Open, the tennis world saw a shocking incident on September 6th. Novak Djokovic, who was furious after losing a break, whacked a ball that accidentally hit a line judge. She was clearly hurt, and the Serb was disqualified as a result. After keeping quiet for a while, Rafael Nadal has finally given his view on the topic.

“Djokovic was unlucky, I’m sorry for him, he had an opportunity in this Grand Slam. You shouldn’t do things like that but they happen in unfortunate circumstances. On the pitch, it’s important to have control so as to avoid bad luck.”

Rafael Nadal is in Rome

While Rafa feels sorry for Djokovic, his focus right now is on the Italian Open. He did not play in New York, meaning fans will see him for the first time since the sport resumed its season. Here’s what he said about his decision.

“When you make a decision, go on with that. I did what I thought was best for me and my family… Now I feel good, I’m normal, or maybe a bit below normal because I haven’t played for a while: to be 100% you have to play games. Against Carreno Busta it will be tough but it will also be a good test.”

Rafa will play Carreno Busta on the 15th of September. Busta had a good run at the US Open, where he reached the semifinal but lost to eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev.

Rafael Nadal will be targeting his 10th title at the Rome Masters 1000. He has already done this at three other events and hopefully, he will add another to his incredible collection of records.
