“It’s Just Minus”: Serena Williams on Playing as a Mom at US Open 2020

Serena Williams has been playing professional tennis for a long time. However, it has been a lot different since 2017 as she is playing as a mom on the Tour. This obviously has its positives and negatives, and she has just revealed what they are.
After beating Sloane Stephens in the third round of the US Open, Serena talked about playing as a mom on the WTA Tour. She said,

“The pluses is that, you know, one day your daughter can say she was there, whether she remembers or not, we can always have pictures. But other than that, it’s just minus, like, I’m not with her, I’m not around her.
“It’s hard. For me, it’s hard, because I spend a tremendous amount of time with her.”

Obviously, Serena prefers spending time with her daughter over tennis. But there is a reason why she is still playing tennis at the age of 38, her thirst for the record of the most Grand Slam titles.

The current record is held by Margaret Court, who won 24 titles over the course of her career. Serena needs just one Slam to equal, but sadly, it has eluded her as she squandered 4 opportunities throughout 2018-19. However, the American star will not repeat the same mistake again.
She is more motivated than ever to equal the record, and she will take another step towards that at the US Open. In the fourth round, she will be playing Maria Sakkari, who beat her at the Cincinnati Open.
