After months of dramas and speculations surrounding the first title defense of the welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman UFC has finally made the fight between Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman official. Originally, these two were supposed to fight in the main event of the UFC 244 card, but now they will be facing each other in UFC 245 in Las Vegas on December 14th.

Since Usman won the welterweight title be beating Tyron Woodley, former interim champion, Colby Covington was the obvious choice for the next title fight against Usman. Covington’s win over Robbie Lawler cemented his place for the title opportunity in the stacked welterweight division and UFC tried to book the fight for the main event of Madison Square Garden.

However, the fight did not come together since Colby Covington was not happy with the negotiations made by UFC for the title fight. That made UFC book Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz at the main event spot for UFC 244. After weeks of negotiations, we finally have the much-awaited fight between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.

Covington, who has made quite a few enemies in UFC thanks to his unfiltered trash talk, has managed to start a beef with the welterweight champion too. After the win against Tyron Woodley, Kamaru Usman was also seen in an altercation with Colby Covington at the Palms. So it’s safe to say that there is bad blood between Usman and Covington going into this title fight.

While Usman is on a 14 fight win streak after the win over former champion, Tyron Woodley, Covington is coming from an impressive win over Robbie Lawler. Both are similar fighters stylistically as they rely heavily on their wrestling background against their opponents. So this title fight is expected to be a highly competitive one.

Along with the welterweight title fight, UFC 245 also features two other title defenses. Max Holloway is going to defend his featherweight title against Alexander Volkanovski and Amanda Nunes will defend her bantamweight title against Germaine de Randamie. However, Colby Covington vs Kamaru Usman is likely to be the main event for the card.
