“It’s a Weird Stigma” – Naomi Osaka
In the recent talk with Time, Naomi Osaka explained exactly why she feels insulted when people say that athletes should only stick to sports. She said,
“I think it’s insulting because I feel that everyone gets a vote and a say. And I think it’s really weird that athletes get told to stick to sports and it does not have anything to do with any other profession. We would never go to a barber and say, ‘Just stick to cutting hair’. But I feel like that’s a weird stigma that is attached and I don’t even know where it comes from.”

Along with peaceful protests in the United States, there have been riots that have led to property damage. Many players like John Isner and Rafael Nadal were supportive of the peaceful protests but asked everyone to refrain from violence.
The protests are ongoing and show no signs of stopping just yet. As time goes by, we expect many more athletes to voice their opinions too.
