“I’ve Done Some Stupid Things As Well”- Nick Kyrgios On Stefanos Tsitsipas’ Breakdown

Australian Star Nick Kyrgios had some kind words for fellow young star Stefanos Tsitsipas following their ATP Cup bout.

Tsitsipas had a pretty tough day at work. The Greek lost his ATP Cup bout to Nick Kyrgios in a very heated contest. The scoreline will dictate the excitement. Kyrgios beat Tsitsipas 7-6(7), 6-7(3), 7-6(5) in a closely contested bout.

However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Tsitsipas had one of his worst emotional breakdowns on the court as he smashed his racket right next to his father’s bench. This seemingly hurt his father and attracted a lot of ire towards the young gun.

However, Kyrgios, who himself is controversy’s favourite child, has offered support to Tsitsipas.

What Did Nick Kyrgios Say?

Nick Kyrgios was pretty ecstatic post match. However, the Australian was not cocky as he has now been painted. Instead, he was pretty understanding of Tsitsipas’ breakdown.

When he was asked if he saw Tsitsipas hitting his father, Kyrgios had this to say-so “I didn’t see it. I don’t think he meant it as well.” 

Kyrgios, who has been a vocal critic of the media, advised them to not pay much attention to it. He went on to liken this situation to his own on court shenanighans.

“I’ve done some stupid things as well in the heat of the moment, so it was obviously an accident, so. 

What’s Next For Team Australia?

Australia has had an incredible showing at the ATP Cup. Even with their best player Alex De Minaur not playing today, they thrashed Greece by a 3-0 margin. It will not be wrong to paint them as title contenders.

With Alex De Minaur in the form of his life and Nick Kyrgios firing on all cylinders, it will not be a surprise to see them pull down the big guns like Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
