Jack Sock, the final player to complete the bout for the Nitto ATP world tour finals, is a player to look out for in the coming years. Sock is the highest ranked American in the ATP rankings. Bubbling with talent, this Nebraska native, also won the US open singles championships as a junior. He has a devastating forehand and is a very good all-round player. In an era where most players choose to remain on the baseline, Sock prefers to come to the net. This of course comes from the hours of doubles tennis that he has spent playing in his career.

He won the 2011 mixed doubles crown at the US open with Melanie Oudin, ousting the defending champions en route. Sock and Vasek Pospisil also won the 2014 Wimbledon doubles crown. Sock continues to play doubles frequently, and believes it has a major part to play in improving his game. The American has had a fair amount of success in the singles division, adding 4 titles to his name. However, his biggest success came this year, when he won the title in Rolex Paris Masters. He is the second American to win a masters’ 1000 title since Andy Roddick in 2010.

The Paris title also meant that he qualified to play in the ATP world tour finals for the first time. Sock said, “There have been a lot of firsts. It started at the French Open with my first fourth round of a Slam, now I’ve won my first Masters 1000 in Paris, this will be my first time in the Top 10 and this will be the first time making the year-end [Nitto ATP] Finals. So there’s a lot going on right now emotionally and I can’t wait to enjoy it all with my team”.

Of all the Americans in the top 50 of the ATP singles (including Sam Querrey and John Isner), Jack Sock is the most promising of the lot. He competed in the world tour finals, but lost his first match to Roger Federer. Just how far he manages to go in the tournament, in the absence of the big names, remains to be seen. However, with a year like 2018, this could very well just be the beginning of a long and illustrious career for Jack Sock.
