Former doubles world No. 2, Jack Sock will partner with the former doubles world No.1, Leander Paes at the Citi Open in Washington, next week.
The tournament is Jack Sock’s second since his thumb injury in January. Jack Sock tore two ligaments in his thumb during the practice session at the 2019 Australian Open. The injury eventually forced him to skip the tour for over seven months.
According to the sources, the interesting partnership of Jack Sock and Leander Paes is initiated by the idea of Mark Ein, the Citi Open tournament director and not by the players.
Earlier, the tournament director also originated an idea of pairing Nick Kyrgios and Stefanos Tsitispas for the doubles event in Washington. Andy Murray and Jamie Murray have also confirmed their participation in the doubles at the Citi Open.
Jack Sock is currently participating at the Atlanta Open, which is his first event of the 2019 season. The American lost his first-round singles match against Miomir Kecmanovic in Atlanta. However, the 26-year-old partnering with his compatriot, Jackson Withrow reached the quarterfinals in the doubles event. The pair will meet the doubles team of Ben McLachlan and John-Patrick Smith in the last 8.
Jack Sock and Leander Paes can certainly make a good combination of as the two have had major success in their doubles career. Sock has conquered three Grand Slam doubles titles at the 2014 and 2018 Wimbledon Championships and 2018 US Open.
While Leander Paes has won eight doubles and ten mixed doubles Grand Slam titles in his career. The Indian also holds a career Grand Slam in men’s doubles and mixed doubles event. The 46-year-old also achieved a rare men’s doubles and mixed doubles title at the 1999 Wimbledon Championships.
He became the second man after Rod Laver to win Wimbledon titles in 3 decades after he conquered the mixed doubles title at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in 2010. Jack Sock will be the 127th partner for Leander Paes in his 29-year career.
