Sinner took to Instagram to announce his withdrawal. The 19-year-old performed exceptionally on his way to the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. Medvedev is also joined by fellow Russians Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov in their home tournament. Out of the bunch, Rublev has had a splendid year, having already won three titles and made quarterfinal appearances at US Open 2020 as well as French Open 2020.
Former Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka will also play at the vent and is seeded 5th. The Swiss player’s best result in St. Petersburg Open came in 2016, when he had finished runner-up to Alexander Zverev.
Completing the seeding list are Milos Raonic, Borna Coric, and Taylor Fritz. Raonic is a former champion at St. Petersburg, and Coris is last year’s runner-up. Taylor Fritz will make his first appearance in the tournament.
