As things have started getting heated up, it was French tennis star Gael Monfils who took on Italian rising star Jannik Sinner at the US Open. It was their third meeting and the match went in favor of the Italian player, winning the match 7-6(1) 6-2 4-6 4-6 6-4.
Set 1: Jannik Sinner draws first blood
As the match began, Gael Monfils and Jannik Sinner were holding their service games with great efficiency. However, things took an interesting turn when the Italian was broken in the 11th game of the set.

To add more to nerves, Monfils broke back in the next game and the winner of the set had to be decided in a tiebreaker. During the tiebreak, it was a one-sided contest and the teenager won 7-1 to clinch the set in his favor.

Set 2: The Italian player strengthens his grip on the match
As the second set began, both players held their initial service games. However, in the fifth game of the set, the Frenchman was broken for the first time in the match. To make matters worse for Gael, he was broken in the next game itself. After 31 minutes, it was the young Italian star who claimed the second set 6-2.
Set 3: Gael Monfils arrives at the party
As the third set began, Monfils had to find a way to stay alive in the match. Although he was broken first in the set, he managed to fight back and break Jannik twice to seal the set in his favor. After 46 minutes into the set, it was the Frenchman who showcased his experience.

Set 4: The experience of the Frenchman comes in handy
As the set began, Gael was broken twice. Within a matter of minutes, he was 0-3 down. However, he managed to break Jannik thrice to claim the set 6-4.
Set 5: Jannik Sinner prevails
Monfils lost serve in the opening game. In the end, the one break that was enough was for the Italian star to win the match. We wish him the very best for his upcoming matches.
