Former World No.1 and 4th seed at US Open 2020, Naomi Osaka continued her splendid run in the Grand Slam as she dispatched Shelby Rogers in the quarterfinals to book a spot in her 3rd Grand Slam semifinal.

Shelby Rogers had a 2-0 lead in the head to head against Naomi Osaka and had come into the match after defeating Petra Kvitova. In what was expected to be a tough match, Osaka looked in supreme form. The Japanese player wasn’t threatened by Rogers and took a comfortable straight-sets 6-3, 6-4 win.

In her post-match press conference, Osaka was asked about her semifinal opponent, Jennifer Brady. While Osaka is considered the favorite to win that match, she was having none of it. Osaka also talked highly about Brady.

“No, I don’t feel like the favorite weirdly enough. Because there’s no fans, I don’t feel anything. I just feel like I’m going into a match with a really talented player, which is all of my previous matches anyway.

Osaka mentioned that since there are no spectators at the tournament, she doesn’t feel like a favorite. Osaka is one of the most popular players on Tour, and so fans would have roared for her if they were allowed in.

Brady and Osaka are one apiece in their head-to-head tally, with their last meeting coming in 2018. Interestingly, both their meetings had the same scoreline of 6-4, 6-4, albeit with different winners.
