Jeremy Stephens Calls Out Yair Rodriguez For a Rematch After the Controversial Finish at UFC Mexico

The main event of UFC Mexico between Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens unfortunately ended in a no contest. Early in the first round, Rodriguez eye poked Stephens unintentionally and Stephens could not continue to fight after that which forced Herb Dean call an end to the fight. This decision has left the MMA community in shock.

Some do not doubt the heart and courage of Jeremy Stephens and understand why Stephens decided not to continue. While rest thinks Stephens faked the eye injury for an easy way out and an easy pay day.

In the locker room, Jeremy Stephens said that he felt tremendous amount of pressure that made him uncomfortable to continue. What’s troubling in the footage is it looks like Rodriguez hit Stephens’s right eye, but Stephens was seemed to complain about getting poked his left eyes. It is also unacceptable that Rodriguez committed the eye poke in the first place.

Herb Dean also gave Stephens 5 minutes to recover from the eye poke, but he was not able to open his eyes. However, it’s in the past now and both the fighters want to run it back.

Jeremy Stephens just gave an statement and called out Yair Rodriguez to a rematch. Stephens said:

“Yair you think I am faking bro when you are the one who poked me in the eyes. Let’s run it back 4-5 weeks, 2 weeks whatever, I will be ready. Just deep scratch, deep bruise. Let’s run it back motherf****. Lets go”

Yair Rodriguez has also said in his post fight interview that he wants to fight Stephens again. it’s understandable that Rodriguez was upset since he did not provide the fans what they wanted, but he has another opportunity to do so. Also Rodriguez seems to believe that Jeremy Stephens faked the eye injury. So there will be animosity between them for sure next time they face each other.
