Johanna Konta Edges Past Sloane Stephens at the Wimbledon Championships 2019

Johanna Konta defeated Sloane Stephens 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in 2 hours and 2 minutes to fix a spot in the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships 2019.

Johanna Konta and Sloane Stephens were meeting each other for the fourth time in their career with Konta leading their head-to-head 3-0. However, the two players were meeting on a grass court for the first time their career.

Earlier, Johanna Konta had sent off Sloane Stephens at the French Open 2019 as she defeated the American in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the Parisian clay.

The first set was quite an equal one as both the players played some strong service games and held their serves until 4-3 when Sloane Stephens broke Johanna Konta after the American lashed wildly wild to go down 5-3. The American then held her serve to conquer the first set 6-4.

Sloane Stephens was serving strongly as Konta didn’t get an opportunity to face a single break point in the whole set. Sloane Stephens was certainly mentally stronger than Konta during the first set.

In the second set, Konta played a better game in the bigger moments of the set. However, Sloane Stephens did not let her game down as both the players held their serve until 5-4 with Konta leading. It was the British who broke the 26-year-old for the first time in the match to grab the set 6-4.

Konta was all over Stephens in the third set as she won the third set 6-1. The British broke the American twice in the third to grab to take control over the set. She won the match after 2 hours to reach the second week of the prestigious tournament. The 28-year-old defeated Stephens for the fourth consecutive time in her career.
