British No.1, Johanna Konta battles past the no. 6 seed, Petra Kvitova 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 16 at the Wimbledon Championships 2019 on Monday.

The two players were meeting for the fourth time in their career with Petra Kvitova leading their head-to-head 3-1. Their last match was also played on the grass court at Birmingham in 2018 with the Czech player winning the match in straight sets.

The battle of big servers was certainly about which player would return the serve better and can keep the rhythm better than the other.

In the first set, both the players saw off the danger on their service game in the 5th and 6th game. Both the players held their serve strongly. Johanna Konta had a chance to serve out for the set after 4-4.

However, the Czech held her serve under pressure after saving break points. It was Johanna Konta who blinked first as she was broken by Petra Kvitova to conquer the first set 6-4.

Johanna Konta, however, was in complete control in the second set as she broke Petra Kvitova to love in her first service game. After struggling in the next game, the Briton went on to hold her service.

She was all over Petra Kvitova as she again broke her to get a strong lead of 3-0 in the second set. Both the players then held their service games till the end of the set as the British grabbed the second set 6-2.

The match went on till the final set as expected. Johanna Konta took the momentum in the final set after winning the second as she earned an early break in the third game.

She held a tidy service game in the next game before breaking Kvitova again to earn a strong lead of 4-1 as a replica of the second set. She held her serve after 5-4 after she was broke in her previous service game and won the set 6-4.

Johanna Konta will face Barbora Strycova in the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships 2019.
