John Daly Once Revealed the Shocking Age at Which He First Got Drunk

Veteran golfer John Daly, who has been quite open about his drinking habits, once revealed how old he was when he had his first drink; the number might actually surprise you.

The 56-year-old golfer has been quite open about his drinking habits all his life. He carries a bold personality and is a very colorful character.

During a podcast with ERNEST in 2021, Daly spoke about how he and his brother had their first sip of wine and how they reacted once their mother came back home.

John Daly said that he and his brother were helping out his father in making Muscadine Wine. It was during this time that Daly told his brother, “ f we’re making it, we might as well drink it.”

He said, “My father made us step on muscadine grapes to grapes to make muscadine wine and your feet would turn purple and all this **** and I’m going to me and my brother look at each other you know what, if we’re making it, we might as well drink it.”

He further added, “So we put in the mason jars and one afternoon I think I was eight and Jamie might have been nine but we drank the whole mason jar out of it, which you know fresh squeezed brand new like the yeast hasn’t even got what it needs to do or hasn’t aged or anything.”

After finishing a jar of fresh-made Wine, Daly and his brother Jamie were nervous if their mother would make out if they were drunk. So his brother Jamie hid in his closet while Daly hid under the kitchen sink.

After all their struggles, their mother eventually found out that they were drunk. It was easy for her to make out since they had turned all purple after drinking the wine.

Daly revealed that he was eight years old when this incident took place while his elder brother was nine .

The only time John Daly got drunk during a PGA Tournament

John Daly once revealed that the only time he got drunk during a PGA event was when he was playing the L.A. Open.

In the documentary produced by ESPN, ‘Hit It Hard’ Daly said, “I never had any alcohol on the golf course that I remember, except for one time, and that was the L.A. Open.”

He added, “It was so slow and I played the back nine first. I think I’m two or three over. I went in the locker room and downed like five beers, and I think I shot four under on the front nine.”

“That is the only time I know that I ever drank during a round, and I played great. I played great that week. I finished strong.”

He once humorously claimed that he would win every week on Tour if he could drink during his rounds.

Many people believe that John Daly would have achieved a lot if he did not have such addictive drinking habit. What do you think?
