Australian tennis player, John Millman enjoyed his best spell in 2018. During that year, he achieved a career-best performance at the US Open, when he reached the quarterfinal. The highlight of that event was when he knocked out Swiss great Roger Federer during their round of 16 matches.

Recently, John was in the news for speaking up for Serbian tennis player, Filip Krajinovic. The Serb was termed a ‘journeyman’ by one of the commentators. Filip is ranked World No. 32 presently and achieved a career-high ranking of 26 in the world. 

John Millman: Filip Krajinovic was called a journeyman

John clearly sensed the disrespect shown towards his colleague on Tour and said, “Okay… enough is enough. First, match here in Oz for the Australian summer and current world number 31, who has been as high as 26, Filip Krajinović just got called a journeyman. Be better.” 

The Australian was joined by former Grand Slam winner Andy Roddick in picking on the commentator for the jibe thrown at the Serbian player. Andy stated, “I agree with w this. In many other sports someone at his ranking would be called an “all-star” or “all-pro”. Tennis does a disservice to itself w condescending terminology, largely from our own broadcasters and journalists.” Meanwhile, Australian tennis player, Nick Kyrgios, replied to Millman’s comment and said, “Hahaha you funny.”

Filip stepped in for Novak Djokovic at the ‘A Day at the Drive’ exhibition event in Adelaide. Novak pulled out the match against Jannik Sinner as he had an issue with blisters on his hand. However, he did take over the match after the first set was played between Filip and Jannik. 

The one-day event features superstars like Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Serena Williams, and Naomi Osaka to name a few. After this, players will head towards Melbourne where they will compete for the first Major of the new season at the Australian Open 2021.
