The past year proved to be really profitable for the gaming industry. While the pandemic situation locked up almost all of us in our homes, most of us had nothing but video games to keep us company. However, the gaming industry itself faced a lot of adversities in its work due to the pandemic. A lot of developers and publishers have spoken about this in detail. But as it turns out, although the situation has improved globally, developers are still hitting speed bumps in the process. Recently, Bethesda announced that they will not be able to release one of its major titles as planned.

Bethesda has already revealed that it has delayed one of its much-anticipated titles, Deathloop. The title was delayed recently to the 14th of September. With the hindrances offered by the pandemic situation, it is the right call to make. The community remembers the state in which games like Cyberpunk 2077 were at the time of release. If delaying a title means releasing it with the least number of bugs, so be it.

Imran Khan, Editor of Fanbyte, recently spoke to a lot of industry insiders while writing a piece on the state of the gaming industry a year after the COVID situation. Recently, he posted a portion of his article on Twitter on the occasion of the Deathloop delay.

Could the piece by the Fanbyte Editor be hinting at yet another Bethesda delay?

The portion in question from Imran’s article says:

“The truth is, players aren’t going to get every video game we — we, as in every developer — want to put out this year. That sucks, but it’s the truth. We don’t want to put out a mess, we want to put out the best games we can, and we’re moving at three-quarters speed on average days and way less on bad days.”

Now, in his tweet, he says that he will point at this several times this year. Although he spoke this in context to the Deathloop delay, yet another insider claims that this snippet points at something else. The industry insider who goes by the name Idle Sloth on Twitter, claims that the anonymous developer who spoke to Imran was talking about the upcoming Bethesda title Starfield.

Mind you, this is still just speculation. There is no evidence to support the claims of Idle Sloth. In fact, very little is currently known about the title itself. All we know is, Starfield is the title Bethesda has assigned top priority along with The Elder Scrolls VI.
