As the tennis world is gearing up for the third Slam of the year, World Number 12, Juan Martin Del Potro announces despairing news for tennis followers worldwide as his knee has turned out to be a nightmare and it is intimidating his tennis career.
The Argentine, Juan Martin Del Potro is skeptical about his return to ATP as he will be undergoing a knee surgery tomorrow in Barcelona. His victory over Denis Shapovalov at Queen’s Club Championships 2019, might be the last triumph for the 2009 US Open champion on ATP Tour.
“As you might know I fractured my right patella once again,” Juan Martin Del Potro said. “After medical studies and talking to the doctors they said surgery was the best treatment. I had asked them for the best option health-wise, not just for tennis.”
“They said surgery, no doubt about it. As you can imagine this is a tough moment, it’s sad to go through all this once again. I didn’t expect this at all. But it will happen tomorrow. I cannot say anything more than that. I don’t know what will happen next.”
The ‘Tower of Tandil’, Juan Martin Del Potro dealt with numerous injuries throughout his tennis career and he kept oscillating drastically on the ATP scale of rankings. Despite being cursed with injuries, Del Potro gave a few good performances at Roland-Garros 2019 and his quarterfinal match against Novak Djokovic in Rome was phenomenal.
Sadly, this year has been an injury-prone season for the Argentine ace and now his knee issues have jeopardized his tennis career.
“Hopefully I will have a good recovery. I hope my knee can heal properly. If that match was the last one of my career, that I don’t know. During rehab, I will be able to think clearly. I will know what my body is able to do,” Juan Martin Del Potro concluded.
