World No.1 Novak Djokovic was in imperious form during his second-round match at the French Open 2020. He pulverized Richards Berankis 6-1, 6-2, 6-2, and improved his 2020 win-loss record to an unbelievable 33-1. The Serbian has lost only 10 games en route on his journey to the third round.

The No.1 seed looked invincible as he wrapped up the first two sets in 62 minutes. This included a lengthy medical timeout by Berankis. It was a moment of deja vu, as the scoreline was exactly the same as their first Grand Slam match. It happened in the opening round of the 2013 US Open, where Djokovic claimed the victory en route his journey to the final.

Despite his dominance, Djokovic talked about the areas where he could improve further as the tournament progressed. The 2016 French Open champion aimed to bring high-intensity tennis right from the start. He seemed satisfied to have achieved it during the first two matches.

“Just everything in general. Just keep the intensity, I think especially at the beginning of the match as I said a few days ago, right from the blocks I want to bring in the focus, intensity, and high level of tennis. I managed to do that in both matches. First was 6-0, today 6-1 first set so exactly how I want to kind of roll into the match and get that confidence as well and kind of swing through the ball.” said Djokovic during the post-match interview.

Novak Djokovic wants to maintain the rhythm

Djokovic was concerned about playing under different conditions. In the opening round, the No.1 seed played under the roof whereas he had to deal with a bit of sunshine in his second-round match.

The 17-time Grand Slam champion admitted that his game was coming off nicely. However, he felt it was imperative to maintain the rhythm going forward. Djokovic will now face Columbian, Daniel Elahi Galan in the round of 32.
