After the shocking defeat of the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, the time came for Kei Nishikori to shine at Barcelona. He is now one match win away from reaching the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell final.

The top seed beat Roberto Agut in the quarter finals of the Barcelona open in three sets 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.It was altogether a very entertaining one hour 40 minute match.

“I’m really happy with the way I’m playing right now, especially in the third set,” said Nishikori. “It was a really tough match.”

He will next play No. 14 seed Martin Klizan, who beat 2004 champion and ninth seed Tommy Robredo 7-6(5), 6-4 for a spot in the semi-finals.

With a semi-final berth at Barcelona, Klizan bettered his previous at ATP 500 events. Earlier, he had only reached the third round at ATP 500 events.

Nishikori and Klizan have clashed once before, in the first round of last year’s Roland Garros, which Klizan won in straight sets.

In the second half of the draw, it’s the Spaniard David Ferrer fighting his way to clinch the Barcelona title after his fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal lost to Fabio Fogini in the second round in straight sets for the second consecutive time.
