The 2019 tennis season has come to an end. All the players will be looking to start 2020 in the best possible way, and that means doing well at the Australian Open. An event that is becoming increasingly popular as a warm-up to the Australian Open is – The Kooyong Classic.
The Kooyong Classic is an exhibition tournament played on outdoor hard courts. Eight players participate in the event and play 3 matches each to determine the standings from the first place to the eighth.
Like the Australian Open, the Kooyong Classic is also played in Melbourne and on Plexicushion which makes it an even better warm-up event than the ATP 250 tournaments like the Qatar Open and the Brisbane Open as it simulates the Australian Open conditions.
The 2020 Kooyong classic will be held between 14th and 16th January. A number of stars have confirmed their appearance at the event as part of their preparations for AO 2020.
On the men’s side of the draw, we will see the appearance of Grigor Dimitrov, Milos Raonic and Marin Cilic. They all went through rough periods in 2019 not being able to play their best tennis. They will be looking for a turnaround in 2020.
On The women’s side of the draw – former Grand Slam Champions Maria Sharapova and Caroline Wozniacki will be making their appearance at the event. Both will be looking for a fresh start in 2020 as they both struggled with injuries throughout 2019.
There are still many spots left at the Kooyong Classic and there is still time for players to confirm their participation. One thing’s for sure- The 2020 edition of the Kooyong Classic is going to be an extremely entertaining event!
