Jemimah Rodrigues, India’s top-order batter has been signed up by Yorkshire Diamonds for the upcoming edition of the Kia Super League which is scheduled to start from August 6. After India T20 captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, Rodrigues is the third player from India to feature in the Kia Super League (KSL).

The 19-year-old Rodrigues has proved herself as a consistent batter in the middle order as well. Having made her debut in 2018, she has scored 421 runs in the season. She has been in a formidable form for the last one and a half year. In India’s tour to New Zealand earlier this year, she scored her career-best 81 not out in Napier and helped India’s 2-1 series win.

She was named the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the recently concluded Women’s T20 Challenge in Jaipur where she scored 123 runs in three games at an average of 61.50. She has 608 runs in her name from 25 Twenty20 International games at an average of 30.40 and a strike rate of 123.57.

Jemimah has scored a whopping 1013 runs at an average of 112.56 in the Under-19 tournament and on the back of this performance, she got her maiden call up in the national squad. Alongside Rodrigues, Chloe Tryon and Alyssa Healy are the other overseas players of the team.

Smriti Mandhana, who set the bar of the tournament with a table-topping 421 runs in her debut season for Western Storm, will play for the same team again while Harmanpreet Kaur who debuted for Lancashire Thunder last year, is likely to get an extension as well.

Yorkshire Diamonds will face the defending champions Surrey Stars on the first day while the finalists of the last season, Western Storm will host Loughborough Lightning and Lancashire Thunder will take on Southern Vipers respectively.
