Kvitova: “I played better on the Grand Slams”

The two time Wimbledon champion, Petra Kvitova has dwelled decently on the tennis during the 2018 tennis season. She has claimed five titles this year and re-entered the top five ranking in the world. She began her season as an unseeded player, also her withdrew from the Brisbane tournament due to her illness. Also, Kvitova got knocked out in the opening round of the Australian Open. Nevertheless, she overcame Kristina Mladenovic to clinch her first title at St. Petersburg Ladies’ Trophy. Her 22nd career title came in Qatar. She surpassed Caroline Wozniacki in the last four and Muguruza in the final to pull off  Qatar Total Open title. Post her title, Kvitova stepped into the top ten ranking first-time since June 2016. In Miami, she defeated  Aryna Sabalenka and Sofia Kenin to reach the fourth round, However, she couldn’t continue to stay longer as Ostapenko hindered in-between.

As the clay season kicked-off, Kvitova streak of 24 consecutive wins against her compatriots came to an end. Her maiden appearance in Charleston turned out to be a loss to the Czech Kristýna Plíšková. Later in the Fed Cup semifinals, the Czech team was into their sixth final in the last eight years. Kvitova overthrew Görges and Angelique Kerber of Germany in the semifinals. This year, Kvitova claimed a title in front of her home crowd. She held the title in Prague without losing set in the entire tournament. Shortly after winding up her victory in the Czech capital she also seized the crown in Madrid. Kvitova wrestled a three-setter to against Kiki Bertens to take the Spanish crown for the third time in her career. However, she couldn’t go beyond the round-off-32 in the French Grand Slam.

Soon after, she bagged her 25th career title in Birmingham. With that, the Czech queen of tennis recorded more than 50 match wins on grass. Kvitova withdrew from the Eastbourne tournament because of there hamstring injury. Her time in SW19 was gloomy. Kvitova marked her first season since 2009 where she received multiple opening-round exits in the major tournaments. Later in Canada, Bertens defeated her at the Rogers Cup in the third round. Also in Cincinnati Bertens saw her off in the semifinals. However, Kvitova dispatched Serena Williams, Mladenovic and Elise Mertens in the Ohio tournament. At the Flushing Meadows, she surrendered to Sabalenka in the third round of the US Open. That loss remarked her failure for the first time to make to the second week at the Grand Slams in a season.

Kvitova’s stay in the Chinese cities, Wuhan and Beijing were sombre. She experienced early exits. In October she began the fourth player to qualify for the Singapore tournament. However, she couldn’t win any matches there.”When I was kind of younger, I played better on the Grand Slams than the other tournaments,” she said after her awful time at the WTA Finals. She concluded the year as the World Number seven. Also, she won the sixth Fed Cup title for her nation. The Czech is expected to emulate her title-winning action the year 2019. Predominantly, the world anticipates seeing her dwelling well on the Grand Slam arenas.
