Kyle Larson is arguably still in the prime of his racing career. However, that is not stopping him from seeing the next generation of Larsons follow in his footsteps. This not only includes his son Owen, but now his younger daughter Audrey has also been bitten by the racing bug, much like Kevin Harvick’s daughter Piper. Both young girls have been lately involved in go-karting races, contributing to the racing fever in their homes. And the dads couldn’t be prouder.
Larson, busy with his racing career himself, agrees that he’s a “hands-off” father in that sense, where he’s letting his children learn things their own way. “I’m not involved. I don’t know anything about mechanics. So that helps keep me off of the cars or kart.” Nonetheless, he loves to watch them do their races and observe their growth. And while Larson stays on the sidelines, he can’t help but be amazed at Audrey’s fiery personality and fearless approach behind the wheel.

Kyle Larson is happy with daughter Audrey’s race experiences
On The Teardown podcast, Kyle Larson opened up on his daughter Audrey’s go-karting stints and how she’s performing well and learning to deal with things on her own: “Well, she flipped last night. Wasn’t her fault, there was a little stack up, and she went to avoid it. Kind of had to ramp up the wall and tumbled a little bit. She said it was fun, she was smiling all about it. She’s the same thing, still aggressive.”
Despite the crash, Larson believes Audrey is actually improving as a racer and he is confident that a win is on the way. That being said, given that Larson is a NASCAR champion, does Audrey and her brother go to their father for advice? Apparently, Owen has not been particularly a fan of it, but that’s not the case with Audrey. Dad Larson confessed that his daughter is very “sassy”. He admitted, “If you’ve ever hung around her you’d be like, ‘Oh my gosh! She’s got some attitude.’ Last week…I had to leave throughout the night to go get on a flight…I texted my mom, ‘Hey, you need to tell her to stay low on the starts, on the front stretch.’ And she (Audrey) said, ‘I know what I’m doing.’ Then she made a mistake on the feature and I’m like, ‘So I thought you knew what you were doing.’ She’s like, ‘Whatever, yeah, I know I know I messed up.'”

The fact that she takes advice from her father, and also owns up on her mistakes, though in a “sassy” manner, proves that she’s got a mix of confidence and competitiveness. That mix of sass and accountability not only reflects her strong personality but also hints at the mental toughness needed to thrive in racing. But where does she get this sassiness from? “Well, if you’ve met Kaitlyn, she’s very sassy and outspoken. Quietly outspoken but sassy, and my sister is very much like Audrey. Although my parents say Audrey’s way, like times 10 compared to what she was, growing up. My sister’s very proud to say that they’re twins,” said Larson.

Larson’s response makes it clear that Audrey’s bold personality runs in the family. And though mother has those traits, it’s Audrey’s aunt that she resembles more, given the “twins” reference. The change in the confidence and boldness of the newer generation explains why her sassiness is multiplied ten folds than her aunt.
Audrey’s sassiness could serve as a real asset on the track in the future, where confidence and accountability often make the difference between winning and settling for second. Her outspoken nature shows she won’t be easily intimidated. This whole package of a fiery personality may give her the mental toughness and determination she would need to excel in the high-pressure world of racing.
As for how much parents Larson and Kaitlyn push for this, Larson said, “I wouldn’t say we pushed it on our kids at all, for racing. It’s so natural to Kaitlyn and I that we knew it was just going to happen…Audrey, she’s super athletic, she wants to do it all. So she races, she’s going to start ice hockey in a couple of weeks. She’s tough, she wants to hit people. I’m pumped about that…She wants to do everything, we don’t force racing on them. Even if they both or any of the kids said, ‘You know, I’m done racing,’ I’d be totally fine with that as well.”
This shows the balanced and understanding approach the Larsons have for their children. Encouragement over pressure. Whatever sport Audrey wants to try, Larson ensures she develops her passion naturally. As for Audrey, her eagerness to try everything showcases not just athletic versatility but also a fearless spirit that could benefit her on the track in the future.
Did the HMS star’s double-duties cost him?
It is relatively well-known in the NASCAR community that Kyle Larson is a hugely versatile driver. Be it a Cup car, a dirt Late Model car, a sprint car, or any other, you name it, he can drive it. Since 2024, Larson took this narrative to another level when he attempted the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double. But this year on the second attempt at the double, something began to slowly set in.

The #5 driver is starting to wonder whether he has bitten off more than he can chew. He recently commented on the so-called ‘Indy hangover’, and actually subscribed to that way of thinking. He said, “Judging by how I ran since Indy, I’d agree with it. Definitely, we took a dip in performance on the Cup side. Even my sprint car stuff there for a few weeks was off a little bit.”
So the question is, can he ‘sober up’ from the hangover, so that it does not affect his title hopes? With his playoff berth fully secured with three wins, his priorities will just be about the Cup series postseason waiting for him at Darlington.
