Kylian Mbappe and Neymar Combine to Earn PSG a Comfortable Win

Paris Saint-Germain’s attacking armoury was at full display in their match against Saint-Etienne. Neymar Jr, Kylian Mbappe, Mauro Icardi and Angel Di Maria, all of PSG’s four guns were blazing left, right and centre. Goals from Mbappe, Leandro Paredes and Icardi drowned Saint-Etienne in a 4-0 loss.

Paredes opened the scoring in the ninth minute for the French champions. When he volleyed home an inefficient clearance by former Arsenal man Mathieu Debuchy. Saint-Etienne made the matter worse for themselves after they went down to 10-men in 25th minute. As Jean-Eudes Aholou was shown a straight red card for his rash challenge on Paredes.

After going down to 10-men it was more about saving their grace than winning the match for Saint-Etienne. Though their resistance wasn’t enough as Kylian Mbappe scored his first and PSG’s second of the day after he bundled in a delicious through ball from Neymar.

Things didn’t improve for the host as PSG continued to rattle their defence. Another goal scoring opportunity was provided to the French giants. When Neymar was brought down by Debuchy inside the penalty box. But the Brazilian could only hit the woodwork. However Icardi didn’t miss his golden chance and comfortably finished a cross from Layvin Kurzawa.

Kylian Mbappe and Neymar combined again to scoring the 20-year-old’s second in the closing stages of the match. Though this goal would be remembered for an unfortunate incident which took place just after Mbappe’s goal. As the Saint-Etienne fans set off fireworks which resulted into three workers at the stadium getting injured.

Both the coaches were critical of the incident as Thomas Tuchel was quoted saying, “I never saw anything like that,” Tuchel said. “It was a little too much, right? It was like New Year’s Eve.”

While Claude Puel was worried about a potential fine. “I hope we will not be penalised, and that the team will not be penalised,

“The game does not need to fireworks, I’ve seen them before, but not in a football match, or at the end of a match.” Puel said post-match.
