The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson have had a long-standing battle now. For weeks, the star quarterback and the Ravens have been at crossroads but the team has chosen to leave the door open. Earlier the Baltimore Ravens placed a non-franchise tag on Lamar Jackson. Even though the man is free to negotiate with other suitable franchises, the final call will remain with the Ravens, who will have the option of even matching or declining the offer.

This decision by the Baltimore Ravens has however not cost them anything yet. As many would have guessed, teams should be running at Jackson to sign with them. But that has barely been the case.

NFL teams not lining up at Jackson’s door has come as a surprise to many NFL fans, maybe to Lamar Jackson himself.

“Trying to Take Leverage Away From Players”: Lamar Jackson Becomes Poster Boy for a Misguided QB Market

It is safe to assume that the Ravens went through with a non-franchise tag after multiple attempts of signing Jackson to a long-term contract failed. The biggest obstacle any team is facing to signing Lamar Jackson would be his relatively high demands.

Obviously, Lamar’s demands are not baseless, as the unanimous MVP feels his value to be the same if not greater than Deshaun Watson. Earlier, Watson agreed to a five-year, $230 million fully guaranteed deal with the Cleveland Browns, somehow messing up the entire quarterback market.

While many would take Lamar Jackson’s efficiency over Deshaun Watson, the contracts show otherwise. Despite all the noise around him, Lamar Jackson took to Twitter to share one of his achievements over the years.

A Twitter post boasted Lamar Jackson sharing the table with proclaimed greats such as Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes. Lamar appeared on a list of the only quarterbacks in NFL history with a 96+ passer rating and 100+ pass TD in their first 61 starts.

The caption read, “Lamar isn’t a running QB. He’s a great QB who can run.” Jackson chose to retweet the entire thing with the words, “Great Company“.

Jackson is definitely out there testing the waters of free agency, but the Ravens have played their cards to perfection. While many believe that the Baltimore Ravens anticipated something like this playing out, the rest of the league might just end up regretting passing on Jackson.

Why are teams not interested?

Many ex-NFL players found themselves confused at the Lamar Jackson debacle. Most of the NFL observers tried making sense of the situation, but none could decipher the reason teams were ‘not interested’ in Lamar anymore.

Fresh out of the league, former NFL player JJ Watt took to Twitter, “Why are all of these teams so publicly “out” on Lamar Jackson, an MVP winner in his prime at the most important position in the entire NFL? What am I missing here?

While the fans and fanatics of the NFL are left looking for a sense of logic, the Baltimore Ravens would definitely be thanking their graces. If the train keeps following the same route, then Jackson would be seen again in Raven’s uniform, and that is exactly what the organization is counting on.
