After his move from New York Giants to Washington Redskins, Landon Collins was back to face his old team on Sunday. His return certainly did not go down well after he was involved in a verbal exchange with the opponents’s safety, Jabrill Peppers.

Collins, who wanted to finish his career in New York, had to make a move to the Redskins after the giants did not offer him an extension. Collins was signed by the Redskins for what was the largest contract for a safety in NFL history- six years, $84 million. At giants, his role and jersey number 21 was handed over to 23-year old Jabrill Peppers.

“Honestly, before the game, I was happy for (Peppers),” Collins said. “He’s a young safety, he’s a safety that’s trying to become somebody. He took my number, so he’s got big shoes to fill.”

Peppers, who was influential in his team’s 24-3 victory with the Collins’ old jersey, was involved in a row with Collins, which according to the Redskins safety was crossing the line.

“He just started yapping,” Collins said. “I mean, you had a good game, so what’s your point of talking to me? You had a good game. Just go about your business. If I had a good game, I’m not going to sit there and trash-talk the opponent, especially a guy that’s been doing it way longer than you and better than you.”

“He made his first play today in four weeks? I mean, I made plenty of plays in that jersey and I’m still making plays. He just started talking. You know I’m not that kind of person, so for me to get that way, you’ve got to start talking to me, and that’s what he did.”

But Peppers was of a different opinion about the confrontation.

“It’s a division game, it’s definitely more personal, but that’s just football,” Peppers said after the victory. “I have the utmost respect for those guys, especially Landon, it’s all love. When you are playing football, you have to tap into another dimension so you can be the player your team needs you to be. I just didn’t turn it off quick enough and I don’t think he did, either. Nothing serious, it’s all love.”

“I love these guys I’m around. I’m not stepping on any eggshells. I’m myself. These guys over here, they love me. They respect me. They see me as a captain and a role model, so it’s awesome.”
