Laver Cup 2019 – Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal Coach Fabio Fognini in The Midst of The Match

The Laver Cup 2019 action is on in Geneva, and Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal did their best to cheer to their team-mate Fabio Fognini who lost to the American, Jack Sock in the second match of the day.

World Number 11, Fabio Fognini struggled in the opening set and later conceded a 6-1, 7-6 defeat to Sock. After his one-sided set one, with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s mentoring the Italian managed to play a give a tough fight in the second set.

The Spaniard champion, Rafael Nadal uplifted the Italian’s morale by coaching in Spanish and the Swiss maestro, Roger Federer instructed him to be positive throughout. 

“New balls now ok, it is going to be pretty difficult, number one. Number two, I want no more negative. I want only positive,” Roger Federer said during the changeover.

It could possibly be Fognini’s one of the memorable changeovers of his tennis career with two tennis greats mentoring him during a match.

“If you go back to return, you do it because you have good intention. If he hits a good forehand, ok, we respect it, maybe it was lucky it doesn’t matter. Believe in the good thing. You can not be frustrated and think something bad is going to happen or he gets lucky. Make him hit a great shot and we accept it and we keep going,” Federer continued.

With Jack Sock’s victory, Team World earned their first point and settled the score to 1-1 on Day one of the Laver Cup 2019. Earlier today, Dominic Thiem gave Team Europe their first victory of the 2019 edition with a rollercoaster win over the Canadian, Denis Shapovalov. The Austrian saved match points of pull off his Friday’s victory in Geneva, Switzerland.
