Lexi Thompson is entering the biggest chapter of her life without the woman who shaped so much of it. The 31-year-old, 11-time LPGA Tour winner took to her Instagram Story to mark what would have been her late grandmother Dorothy “Mimi” Fischi’s birthday, writing: “Happy heavenly birthday Mimi 🫶 wish you were here to see this next step in my life but I know you’re watching from above ❤️”

The tribute comes just weeks after Thompson announced that she and her husband, Max Provost, are expecting their first child, a baby girl due in February 2027. The couple shared the pregnancy news in August with ultrasound photos and the message, “The greatest blessing of our lives is on the way!”

Mimi passed away on May 23, 2022, at the age of 92, just one week before that year’s U.S. Women’s Open. Thompson has continued to remember her every year. This year’s post felt even more emotional because Thompson is entering a new chapter in her own life, one that her grandmother will not get to see.

Long before Lexi Thompson became a major champion, Mimi was a big part of her life. Dorothy Fischi often looked after Thompson and her brothers and drove them to the golf course when they were young. Thompson has also shared memories of having poached eggs on toast at Mimi’s house in the morning and eating Oreos and milk on the floor while her grandmother played solitaire nearby.

“She was my everything growing up,” Thompson once said of Mimi. “She was a firecracker. She loved golf like no other.”

When Mimi’s health became worse in 2020, Thompson left her U.S. Women’s Open preparations to spend time with her grandmother at her home in Plantation, Florida, along with her mother, Judy. Thompson has said that losing Mimi changed the way she looked at major championships. Even after her death, she continued to turn to her grandmother for perspective.

This is not the first time Lexi Thompson has used social media to remember Mimi. In previous years, she shared messages such as, “Miss you every day, Mimi. Happy heavenly birthday.” She has also shared emotional moments away from the course, including when a fan gave her a framed photo of Thompson, her mother Judy, and Mimi together.

But this year’s post was different because of the personal update she included. Thompson’s mention of her “next step” comes after several major changes in her life. She got engaged to Provost on New Year’s Day 2025 during a trip to Whistler, Canada. The couple married this past March at a private estate in southwest Florida. Less than five months later, they announced that they were expecting their first child.

These changes have also come as Thompson has stepped away from full-time golf. She left the full LPGA Tour schedule after the 2024 season because she wanted to “be there for every single moment” of her future family. That dream is now becoming a reality, although injuries limited her to only a few starts in 2026. She also withdrew from the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship because of a hip injury.

Thompson’s pregnancy announcement received messages of support from several LPGA stars, including World No. 1 Nelly Korda and Lydia Ko. Her sister, Jessica Korda, is also expecting her second child. That adds another special connection to a family where golf has played such a big role for generations.

For Thompson, this latest tribute feels less like a goodbye and more like an update. It is her way of keeping Mimi part of her life and sharing a new chapter with the grandmother who helped shape her from the very beginning.
