Later on, in the season, she won her first ITF title, announcing herself on the professional circuit. On that very day, she also won the doubles title. 

She competed in the main draw of the Australian Open 2020 and crashed out in the opening round. However, she won her first WTA title in Mexico this year and is currently in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

Leylah’s father Jorge is from Ecuador and is a former soccer player. On the other hand, her mother Irene Exevea is Filipino Canadian. Her younger sister Bianca Jolie is also a tennis player, and her elder sister, Jodeci, is a dentist. Fernandez is fluent in English, French, and Spanish.
