Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn’s relationship was undoubtedly very special. The two hold great respect for each other even years after their breakup. Today we look back at the heartbreaking moment when Vonn announced her split from the legendary golfer.

The couple started dating back in 2013. Their dating news quickly made headlines since both athletes were high-profiled stars in their respective sports.

The pair decided to part ways in May, 2015. Vonn shared the news of the breakup on her Facebook page and stated how Woods and his family held a ‘Special Place’ in her heart.

The golfer and Olympic skier attended the 2015 Masters together, where Vonn accompanied Woods’ two children during the pre-tournament Par 3 Contest. However, a month later, Vonn shared the shocking announcement of her breakup with the 15-time Major champion.

Lindsey Vonn shared a post on Facebook that read, “I will always cherish the memories that we’ve created together.” She further described the breakup as mutual and blamed their hectic lives for the separation.

The Olympic Gold medal skier wrote, “Unfortunately, we both lead incredibly hectic lives that force us to spend a majority of our time apart. I will always admire and respect Tiger. He and his beautiful family hold a special place in my heart.”

The news disappointed many fans since the couple was universally adored. But at the end of the day, nobody should have a say in personal matters of anyone else’s.

Woods confirms breakup with Vonn

Soon after Vonn’s announcement on Facebook, Tiger Woods shared a statement about their breakup on his website. His statement only made the confirmation of the breakup to clean up all the rumors.

Woods said, “I have great admiration, respect and love for Lindsey and I’ll always cherish our time together. She has been amazing with Sam [daughter] and Charlie [son] and my entire family.” Similar to Vonn’s statement, he then discussed how the hectic lives of both the athletes have been a major factor in their breakup.

The 46-year-old added, “Unfortunately, we lead very hectic lives and are both competing in demanding sports. It’s difficult to spend time together.”  Both the stars have moved on from the breakup and managed to find new love in their life.

However, while it lasted, the golfer and Olympic skier were known as the power couple in the world of sports. So it’s no shocker why their breakup left the fans disheartened.
