Doubles Specialists Retain Their Title!!!
After securing their spot in the revamped US Open mixed doubles final, Andrea Vavassori sent out a clear message, saying, "We are on a mission." They were the only true mixed doubles team in this star-studded draw. Yesterday, we saw him and Errani stating that they were playing for all the doubles players who couldn't compete in the tournament this year. Now, 6-3,5-7,10-6 win over Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud, the wildcard entrants have successfully managed to defend their title in NY. Mission accomplished!
One Step Away!
The doubles specialists, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, are now one game away from defending their US Open mixed doubles title. They now have a 5-3 lead in the second set. The Italians have been superb throughout this tournament, and it'll be an incredible moment in their careers if they manage to retain their crown at the US Open.
The Final Is Up and Underway
Sara Errani is currently playing her 14th Grand Slam final tonight (1- Singles, 10- Women's Doubles, and 3- Mixed Doubles). Last year, Errani and Vavassori defeated Taylor Townsend and Donald Young by 7-6(0),7-5 in the final. What'll be the scoreline this time? Can Swiatek and Ruud stand tall against the doubles specialists?
Game. Set. Match.
Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori look to be on a mission. After beating Taylor Fritz and Elena Rybakina, the Italian duo claimed, "We are playing for all the doubles players that could not compete here. We try to do our best." Now, with their 4-2,4-2 win over local favorites Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison, they have not only secured a spot in the final but also made a statement. Get ready for an epic final against Iga Swiatek & Casper Ruud. Stay tuned!
First Set: Done and Dusted!
How can one call this an "exhibition" after seeing Errani/Vavassori's insane intensity? It took 1 hour and 25 minutes to decide the fate of the first semifinal, but guess what? In the second SF, the first set is done and dusted within just 20 minutes. Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori took the first set by 4-2. Can Collins and Harrison make a comeback in the next set?
A Quick Start!
Before the start of this match, Danielle Collins said, "They (Errani and Vavassori) already have so many trophies… they don’t need any more extra trophies. Let’s try and take it." But the Italian duo is now making things a bit harder for both Collins and Harrison. They secured a quick 2-0 lead in the first set, and Andrea Vavassori has been superb in this initial stage of this match. Extremely aggressive play at the net!
Onto the Next One
Can the all-American duo Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison beat the two-time mixed doubles Grand Slam champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori? Well, Jasmine Paolini is in the stands to cheer for her compatriots! Coming to the Americans, a win here would take them one step closer to a historic milestone. Tennis bigwig, Randy Walker, shared a very interesting tweet recently. He wrote, "So, I believe, by reaching the @USOpen mixed doubles semifinals with Danielle Collins as an alternate team, Christian Harrison will collect his biggest career paycheck (he will get at least 100K). His paycheck for his 2025 French doubles semifinal was about 86K)." Can they now make it to the finals?
Casper Is Hungry!
After showcasing his hunger for a win with a stellar performance in his SF match alongside Iga Swiatek, Norwegian star Casper Ruud makes a heartfelt confession. Who would have thought this match would go so long? After securing their spot in the final, in his post-match interview, Ruud said, "I’m gonna eat a little bit. I’m a little hungry. It was a long match. It was longer than Iga’s normal singles matches."
What a Win!!!
If only stealing victory from the jaws of defeat had a better example than Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud's brilliance in this 1-hour and 25-minute-long battle. Down by 4-8 in the 10-point tie-break, these two won six points in a row to seal the deal by 3-5,5-3,10-8. It couldn't have been a better finish to this 13th mixed doubles match at the 2025 US Open!
