The Reds seem to have decided to make full use of the transfer window this summer. According to latest reports from Sky, Liverpool are closing in on a double swoop with two Spanish teams. Brendon Rodgers is looking for the left back Alberto Moreno who belongs to Sevilla FC and Javier Manquillo from Atlético Madrid. This will make Liverpool’s summer window spending exceed the £100 million barrier.

Failing to strike a breakthrough in negotiations over Alberto Moreno earlier in the window, it’s understood that the Reds are now willing to meet Sevilla’s £20 million evaluation of the 22 year old Spanish international fullback. Iago Aspas’ loan to Sevilla itself might have acted as a sweetener for this deal. After evaluating a number of left back options, Rodgers has decided that Moreno would be perfect complement for left-back Jose Enrique, whose season last year halted after a long term injury.

Jon Flanagan was forced to deputize at the left-back position last year when Aly Cissokho failed to make a mark and provide immediate cover. This deal will see Flanagan move back to his favoured right-back position.

The Moreno deal is likely to be followed by an immediate 2 yearlong loan deal for Atletico Madrid’s right-back Javier Manquillo. The deal for the 20 year old will include a £6 million clause that’ll allow the Reds to make this move permanent after two years.

Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has reportedly flown to Spain to complete both deals as quickly as possible.

With both full-back positions in need of immediate cover, closing these deals will prove significant in the Reds’ pursuit for EPL glory this season, maybe along with a high finish in the Champions League.

However, the double swoop will not make Liverpool inactive for the rest of the summer while they are still looking for a highly rated striker to replace Luis Suarez.
