The quarrel between the Australian men, Lleyton Hewitt and Bernard Tomic has exponentially multiplied, as Tomic has physically threatened Hewitt and his family. And Hewitt is firm with his decision that Tomic will not represent Australia or participated in any of the Davis Cup tournaments as long as he is the captain. After Hewitt was knocked out from the doubles event of the Australian Open 2019, he would dismiss all the relations which he shares with Tomic after he allegedly abused him over the past 18 months.

Despite Hewitt was criticised by Tomic for the Davis Cup matters and Open wildcard player selection policy, Hewitt wanted to help him out. As he started receiving threats for himself and his family Hewitt decided to stay away from the 26-year-old Australian. “The threats that I’ve received on me and my family that I’ve had had for a year and a half now, I don’t think anyone would reach out to a person who speaks like that. For me, it was the abuse I copped from him at the end. I drew a line in the sand and I haven’t spoken to him since. “He won’t play Davis Cup while I have anything to do with it”, mention Hewitt.

It was digestible for Hewitt to handle his abuses, but he was frustrated about having an intention to help the for World Number 17 out, who now ranked 88th in the world. “For me, the biggest frustration is that I really went out of my way to help him,” Hewitt said. “I spent a lot of time with him at a lot of tournaments, and tried to get a coaching structure and physical team around him to give him the best opportunity, but at the end of the day, he kept making the wrong mistakes. Deep down, Bernie knows what I’ve done for him… for Bernie to come out and have a go – but more to get all of his facts wrong – that’s probably the most disappointing thing.”

The other Australian players such as, Alex de Minaur, John Millman and Alexei Popyrin are budding athletes of the nation and are doing well at the Australian Open 2019 and are talented enough to represent their nation, but however, Hewitt shared that, he did not need players who would not give their best for their country. And he feels that Nick Kyrgios is not meeting the cultural standards which he looks up to. Kyrgios is knocked out from the singles and the doubles event of the Australian Open 2019.
