Tragedy struck the Major League Baseball world as the Los Angeles Angels confirmed the passing of pitcher Tyler Skaggs. Skaggs was just 27 years old at the time of his passing and the team were deeply affected.

The Angels made the difficult announcement on Twitter, hours before their match against the Texas Rangers. According to the Southlake Police, Tyler Skaggs was found unconscious in his hotel room in Texas. However, initial investigations have ruled out any signs of foul play.

In response to the tragic news, the MLB elected to cancel Monday night’s game out of respect. Tyler Skaggs was just peaking in his MLB career, having debuted at age of 20 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

So far this season he played 15 games, with his most recent match against the Oakland Athletics.

“Tyler has, and always will be, an important part of the Angels family,” said the team’s statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Carli and his entire family during this devastating time.”

According to the police to the LA Times, “suicide is not suspected”. However, a post-mortem examination was set to be scheduled soon by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner.
