Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres Play Through an Earthquake

Over the past few days, the United States has been hit by a series of earthquakes. Two earthquakes had already hit Alaska, before a few more hit the state of California. The latest earthquake occurred 31 kilometres away from Ridgecrest, California. However, the tremors did little to deter the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres.

San Diego Padres pitcher Eric Lauer threw several pitches to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Enríque Hernández. All the while a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked Southern California on Friday night.

However, the players stayed focused and played like normal, even as broadcast cameras and the foul poles shook for a few seconds.

The shaking was felt more than 250 miles away in Las Vegas, where an NBA Summer League game ended up being postponed.

In the end, the Padres beat the home team with a score of 3-2. Hunter Renfroe hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning to seal the game for the Padres. MLB All-Star lefty Clayton Kershaw pitched seven sharp innings for the Dodgers, but the loss snapped their nine-game home winning streak.
