The World No.1 Novak Djokovic is eyeing a record 18th Grand Slam title at the US Open 2020. Djokovic defeated World No. 30 Milos Raonic in the final of the Western and Southern Open 2020 to clinch his 35th Masters 1000 title.

Despite reeling under neck pain, Djokovic’s mentality carried him through the tough moments in the Cincinnati final. Djokovic created a record of winning each of the Masters 1000 titles at least twice.

As the US Open 2020 kicks off today, many players have rejected the idea of the tournament result be slapped with an asterisk. The reason for the suggestion is the absence of top players like Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, and many others.

The American tennis player Taylor Fritz gave an explanation for forgetting about asterisks when he told ESPN, “Who was in the final at the Australian Open? Novak Djokovic and Dominic Thiem. They are both here.

“I mean, come on. Sure some people are missing, but in the end, there’s only one winner and a lot of the times that winner is Djokovic — who is here.”

Many analysts feel that this year’s US Open is not worth the same because of the absence of many Top-10 ranked players. On the other hand, many believe that due to prevailing circumstances it will be mentally tougher for the players.

The No.1 seed Novak Djokovic is aiming to win his fourth US Open crown. The reigning Australian Open Champion faces Damir Džumhur in the opening round at Flushing Meadows. At last year’s US Open, Djokovic retired in his quarterfinal match against Stan Wawrinka because of a shoulder injury.

The Serbian might face the No. 2 seed, Dominic Thiem, if both men manage to reach the finals. The duo last played in the 2020 Australian Open final, where Djokovic outlasted Thiem in a five-set thriller.
