2020 wasn’t the best year for Elina Svitolina. Although she won a couple of titles, she failed to reach the latter stages at any of the Grand Slams. After this season, the Ukrainian hired a mental coach, and she recently revealed why. In a pre-event press conference at WTA Abu Dhabi, she said,

“I think mentally is very important to to stay strong to stay fresh with all the tournament’s that are going to happen right now. And pretty much all of them are very important and very big.

“So after playing few tournaments in the end of the last season, I think I was thinking to to take the the mental coach and I think this is the right decision for me right now. There is lots of things that happening also we have Olympics this year so it’s very important to you know, to stay focused.”

Elina Svitolina On Working With The Mental Coach

In the same press conference, Svitolina was asked about her goals with the mental coach. She replied by saying,

“So you have lots of stuff going on around you and you know, you have the private life as well you have family, all these kinds of pressures from outside. So for sure, trying to to be in a good mindset in mind state for the match is everything around you, So it’s important to have the right people around you.”

Moving on, the Ukrainian also talked about how it has been working with the mental coach. She said,

It is great that Svitolina is feeling great after working with her mental coach. She will now be able to play her best tennis at the upcoming big event – the Australian Open. If she wins it, she will be the first Ukrainian Grand Slam singles’ champion.
