Louis van Gaal has blamed four chaps for United’s uninspired performance against club America. They go by the names Niall, Liam, Harry and Louis.

Yes, the Manchester United manager has blamed the English band One Direction for their poor display in the first friendly of the season.

Even though United won the match 1-0, thanks to a Morgan Schneiderlin header, United failed to produce clear cut chances.

48 hours before the match started, the stadium hosted an One direction concert, with thousands of fans dancing on the pitch, and van Gaal was clearly not impressed with the state of pitch after that.

“The pitch was not good,” said Van Gaal. “It was difficult.

“The first surface was artificial and it had grass over it. It was always moving. It’s not easy. You can get injuries. It’s a big concern. It was like that last season against Real Madrid in Michigan. It’s like this in the USA. These pitches are used for different things.

“Old Trafford is used for football only, not One Direction concerts. Here it’s used for entertainment things. The facilities generally are fantastic. They could not be better.

“We have been received very well by Seattle Seahawks and the football club. Everyone is fantastic. But we have to play football on such a pitch. We could not do that and that’s important.”
